Remember Dear Abby? Some days, like today, I feel like I am walking in her shoes. Started in 1956, Dear Abby was an advice column. I read it most of my life. At night my mother read it to my blind father and together they would laugh at her well-crafted answers. The column was well-known for short and punchy, but straight-forward and compassionate responses.
I shared a weekend recently at a retreat in Tennessee with a group of people I had not met before, but with whom I shared a common experience: The love of the music of David Wilcox. David is a folk singer based in Asheville, North Carolina, whose music serves as the soundtrack to my existence. Johnny’s Camaro sang me into courage, Rule Number One taught me to trust my intuition (and kept me out of jail – but that is another story for another time). Show the Way carried me through the healing process after September 11th.
